Southern Don Ca Tai Tu Festival kicks off

Southern Don Ca Tai Tu
The 2015 Southern Don Ca Tai Tu (traditional musical art form of the south) Festival, competing for Golden Lotus Awards, opened at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on July 11.

The festival attracted 250 singers and traditional musical instrument players from 24 outstanding clubs in Ho Chi Minh City. Their performances mainly praise the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, patriotism, love, and socio-economic and cultural achievements.

Le Van Loc, Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Centre, said that the artists will perform in various categories, including solos, duets and ensembles.

The festival is a significant public art event to realise the community’s commitment to UNESCO in preserving and promoting values of the art form, according to Nguyen Van Minh, Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh City’s municipal Department of Culture and Sports.

The event will promote the art form to the public, particularly the youth, in order to continue preserving and promoting its unique values.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on July 26.

‘Don Ca Tai Tu', a folk art form developed across Viet Nam’s Southern region since the end of 19th century, was recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humankind in December 2013.
