On 14 May 2015, in Viet Nam National Museum of History (No.1 Pham Ngu Lao Street, Hoan Kiem District, Ha Noi, Vietnam), the opening ceremony of the exhibition titled “Lotus on antiques” was held.
Here, 100 typical artifacts dating from the 7th - 9th centuries to Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) was introduced and displayed according to the groups, such as: Lotus on royal antiques of Nguyen Dynasty; Lotus on Buddhist ritual and worship items; Lotus on architectural materials; Lotus in the social life; Embroidery pictures themed lotus…
The lotus is a symbol of purity, nobility and elegance. In Buddhism, the lotus represents moral values, purity, holiness, intelligence and enlightenment. In folk consciousness, the lotus is compared with the people who have noble and deep beauty, but full of bravery. The lotus has come to Vietnamese life since long time. The lotus is used popularly in visual art and architectural decoration.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ph.D Nguyen Van Cuong, Director of Viet Nam National Museum of History said, the exhibition titled “Lotus on antiques” aims to respond to the 40th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification (30 April 1975 – 30 April 2015), toward the 125th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s Birthday (19 May 1890 – 19 May 2015) and International Museum Day (18 May). Through the exhibition, visitors will feel the traditional cultural values at the same time contribute to preserving and developing them.
The exhibition will last until the end of September 2015.
