VIVID SYDNEY LIGHTS UP AGAIN IN 2015

In just a few hours Vivid Sydney will once again light up the city and, for the next 18 days and nights from 22 May to 8 June, Sydney will be centre stage for the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas. With more interactive light installations, projections and precincts than ever before during Vivid, there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained this year, and it’s all absolutely free.

Destination NSW has outlined some travel tips to help families have a safe and enjoyable Vivid. Visitors need to plan their visit across a few nights, with Monday to Thursday evenings best suited to families looking to avoid crowds that build during the weekend. They should also take advantage of early starts for Lights On (ahead of the official 6pm start) with Martin Place and Central Park lighting up from 5:30pm each evening.

And tips on what to see with the kids? Monster World in The Rocks, Swing Glow and BeatDice in First Fleet Park, INTER/play at the historic Cadmans Cottage in The Rocks, game of drones at Martin Place and Mission Control at Pyrmont & The Star.

New Vivid precincts

This week Sydney’s media were given a sneak peek at two of Vivid’s newest precincts, Chatswood and Central Park. At Chatswood mesmerising light installations tell the story of Nautilus and the Sea, taking visitors on a journey along a flowing ‘river’ of light from the Interchange to the Concourse and finishing at Chatswood Chase. The stunning underwater fantasy is set to make Chatswood a popular precinct and with bespoke venues including bars and night markets popping-up, it’s sure to frame Chatswood in a new light. 

Vivid’s other new inner-city precinct at Central Park on Broadway features a spectacular light show, accompanied by music, that will splash across heritage buildings while night markets and a silent disco will be fun for everyone.

The the other Vivid precincts include Martin Place, Darling Harbour, Pyrmont & The Star, and Circular Quay.

Public transport is the way to go

Thousands of extra public transport services will operate during Vivid with an additional 3,500 trains, buses and ferries running. With so many extra services and all festival attractions close to major public transport hubs, everyone is encouraged to leave their car at home and use public transport to and from Vivid Sydney. Ferry services are expected to be very busy, especially on weekends, so visitors are encouraged to have a back-up plan and take advantage of extra train and bus services.
