NSW has been named Australia’s Best Event State in 2014 for the second consecutive year, with the Major League Baseball Opening Series, Vivid Sydney and the Deni Ute Muster receiving accolades at the prestigious Australian Event Awards.
The award caps off a hugely successful year which has seen NSW host major events including the Major League Baseball Opening Series, international soccer giants Juventus vs A League All Stars, the world premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom the Musical, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour and Vivid Sydney.
The Major League Baseball Opening Series which was secured for Sydney by Destination NSW, was awarded the highly coveted Australian Event of the Year and also took out Best Sporting Event and Best New Event.
The spotlight has again shone brightly on Vivid Sydney, taking out Best Tourism Event for the second consecutive year. The accolade follows an impressive year in which a record 1.43 million people attended the Southern Hemisphere’s largest festival of light, music and ideas.
Another iconic event taking out an award was the Deni Ute Muster, winning Best Regional Event.
Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase welcomed the accolades and said 2015 promises to bring even more major events to the State.
“We look forward to presenting yet another spectacular NSW Events Calendar in 2015 including the Australian Premiere season of Matilda The Musical, ICC Cricket World Cup, AFC Asian Cup, Hurley Australian Open of Surfing and the return of Vivid Sydney to name just a few,” Ms Chipchase said.
The Australian Event Awards is the pinnacle awards program for the events industry in Australia.
