November Fairs and Festivals Deliver a Slice of Americana in California's Gold Country


Mountain Mandarin Festival
A visit to California's Gold Country, where gold was discovered in 1849, is perfect any time of year with the state's temperate climate.  But to step back in history or experience that small town feeling, here are some unique and notable events to consider in November when making plans to visit California.

MOUNTAIN MANDARIN FESTIVAL, annually the weekend before Thanksgiving, Auburn
The sweet and tangy citrus scent of Mandarin oranges permeates the crisp November air at this annual event at the Gold County Fairgrounds, featuring locally grown Mandarin oranges, in infused drinks, salads, grilled meats, ice creams, marinades and syrups. www.mandarinfestival.com
  
Sonora Christmas Festival
SONORA CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL, November 23-25, Sonora
The spirit of Christmas is experienced in this legendary festival, with 150 craft artists, live music, street performers, costumed elves and twinkle trees, carolers, a wide selection of home-cooking style festival kitchens and bake shops, all in festive, brightly colored craft halls at the Tuolumne County Fairgrounds.   The annual Christmas Parade takes place in downtown Sonora on November 25. www.fireonthemountain.com  

Christmas Delights Jackson
CHRISTMAS DELIGHTS, November 23-24, Jackson
Stroll down historic Main Street, taking in the festive atmosphere of shopkeepers offering hot ciderand treats to visitors. Horse and carriage rides roll on Saturday evening, costumed characters mingle from days' gone by and activities for children include a cookie contest and the timely appearance of Santa. www.jacksonbca.com
