Autumn Season Serves up Feast of Festivals in Korea

Seoraksan National Park
There is no better time to visit Korea than during the Autumn season when the skies are brilliant blue and the trees turning many shades of orange, gold and red.  Korea also serves up a feast of Autumn festivals and events at this time making it an excellent time to visit the country.

Autumn comes first to the mountains along the east coast of Korea where the splendour of Seoraksan National Park is in all its glory in October.  The autumn colours gradually move south to the southern regions of the country, allowing around six weeks or more of splendid colour all over the country.

Autumn is a popular time for food festivals and there are many in October.  From 18-22 October this year the Korea Food Festival takes place in Jeonju city, about 1.5 hours south of Seoul.  The festival includes the Jeonju Bibimbap Festival.  Jeonju Bibimbap (mixed rice and vegetables) is known all over the country and is one of the most popular Korean dishes enjoyed by visitors to the country.

During the Korea Food Festival there will be traditional performing arts, concerts, Korean food and culture classes relating to food for health.  Visitors will be able to join food culture experiences and even learn how to make a kimchi pizza.  Kimchi is Korea’s most iconic food, fermented cabbage with chilli, garlic, ginger which is served with every Korean meal.

A side-trip from Jeonju to Naejangsan National Park is recommended during Autumn as the maple leaf walkway to the temple is truly stunning, a very popular photography spot at this time of year.

Busan city, Korea’s seaport in the south east of the country hosts a huge International Fireworks Festival this year on 26 and 27 October.  Hosted by Busan Metropolitan City it is a spectacular event to enjoy the beautiful night scenery, street parade and performances as well as a Fireworks concert.

Jeju Olle Walking Festival
If you like nature and walking then why not join the Jeju Olle Walking Festival taking place on Jeju Island off the southern coast of Korea from 31 October to 3 November, 2012.  Special walking trails are set up and there are village experiences to be enjoyed including a harvest experience, viewing the famous female divers of Jeju Island and Jeju traditional food experience.
