Thailand’s Travel Boom: Agoda Unveils Top Tourism Trends for 2025

Regional Markets Drive Thailand’s Soaring Visitor Numbers

Thailand continues to shine as a leading destination in Asia, with fresh data from digital travel platform Agoda revealing strong inbound momentum during the first half of 2025. In alignment with the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025 campaign, the country saw a notable increase in international arrivals, particularly from nearby Asian markets.

According to Agoda’s booking insights, the top five sources of inbound travellers were China, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore. These nations accounted for a major portion of the 16 million international visitors welcomed between January and June 2025, contributing to a tourism revenue total of approximately 743.582 billion baht.

Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket Lead—Hat Yai on the Rise

Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket retained their positions as Thailand’s most visited cities, consistently drawing visitors with their mix of entertainment, culture, and coastal charm. However, Hat Yai has emerged as a rising star, especially among travellers from Malaysia and Singapore. With affordable accommodation and easy access via land and air, Hat Yai was named one of the most budget-friendly cities in Asia for the second year in a row.

Other destinations are also gaining popularity. Islands such as Ko Tao, known for world-class diving, and Ko Pha-ngan, famous for its balance of calm beaches and vibrant nightlife, have seen extended stays. Meanwhile, Pathum Thani, just north of Bangkok, is drawing those seeking a quieter, more local experience without venturing far from the capital.

Travel Behaviour Varies by Market

Agoda’s findings highlight the nuances of travel behaviour by nationality. While China led in total visitor numbers, South Korean travellers stayed the longest on average, followed by those from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and China. These longer stays were typically associated with smaller islands and secondary cities, indicating a trend toward more immersive and relaxed travel experiences.

The increase in travel is supported by Thailand’s continued investment in air connectivity, streamlined visa processes, and enhanced tourism infrastructure, all part of the nationwide push to position Thailand as a hub for quality tourism in Asia.

Agoda’s Role in Thailand’s Tourism Success
