Celebrate Lunar New Year with Hong Kong Bus Day in Sydney

Hong Kong Bus Day in Sydney
This Lunar New Year, take a trip down memory lane as the Sydney Bus Museum celebrates Hong Kong Bus Day on Sunday, 2nd February. The event offers a rare opportunity to hop aboard vintage Hong Kong buses that were once the heartbeat of Hong Kong's bustling streets. These buses will be operating on the CBD 465 Service, running from the Sydney Bus Museum to Town Hall, where you can board at Park Street (Stand H) outside Hungry Jack’s.

How to Ride the Hong Kong Buses

The excitement kicks off with the Hong Kong buses departing every half hour from Town Hall in Sydney’s CBD. This is your chance to step aboard a piece of history, experiencing the buses that once served the busy streets of Hong Kong.

Alternatively, if you're coming from the Sydney Bus Museum in Leichhardt, you'll be able to catch a bus to the Museum via Route 437 and Route 440. The Museum is conveniently located near the Pioneers Memorial Park. Parking is available at the top of William Street, just a short walk to the Museum entrance where tickets can be purchased on arrival.

Vintage Hong Kong Buses on Show

During the event, some of the most iconic Hong Kong buses will be in action, including the famous MCW Metrobus CMB ML1 and the Mercedes 0305 KMB ME30.
  • Hong Kong Bus Day in Sydney
MCW Metrobus CMB ML1: This impressive tri-axle double-decker was the first of its kind delivered to Hong Kong in 1982. Manufactured by Metro-Cammell Weymann in the UK, it served on cross-harbour tunnel services before being withdrawn in 2000. It was later purchased and restored for the 2000 Sydney Olympics before being donated to the Sydney Bus Museum in 2018.

  • Mercedes 0305 KMB ME30: Delivered to Kowloon Motor Bus in 1985, this bus was one of the first introduced after import restrictions were lifted. It was used on high-demand routes before being withdrawn in 2002 and purchased by an Australian enthusiast. In 2009, it was shipped to Sydney and later donated to the museum.
