Lai Chau developing tourism associated with forest protection

Tam Duong district in the north-western mountainous province of Lai Chau is renowned for mountains being among the highest ones in Vietnam. Boasting pristine and majestic natural landscapes, especially the blooming Rhododendron flowers in March and April, the mountains are attractive destinations for nature lovers. To leverage the local strengths, Tam Duong district has been developing hiking tourism linked with forest protection.

Among the mountains with heights of some 3,000 meters are Putaleng and Ta Lien Son. Every year, they attract a large number of climbers.

As a hiking guide since 2018, Phàn A Hoan from Hồ Thầu commune, Tam Duong district, is well aware that, hiking activities should go hand in hand with the respecting of forest values. Therefore, he consistently informs tourists about forest protection on each hiking trip.

The hiking season runs from October to the end of April of the following year. On weekends, Tả Lẻng commune in Tam Duong district receives hundreds of visitors. Local authorities usually send people in charge to meet guides and hikers.

The forest protection management board of Tam duong district is responsible for managing the primary and special-use forests on the high mountains. Therefore, the unit is also very proactive in the forest protection.

Hiking, along with forest experience activities, is an attractive form of tourism for visitors to Tam Duong. Once the forest protection is ensured, the tourism form will make important contributions to generating stable income for the local people.
