Kanazawa City of Ishikawa Prefecture is famous for its gold leaf, one of the inherited traditions of the city since the end of the 16th century.

Today, Kanazawa produces 99% of domestic gold leaf, and 100% of domestic silver and platinum leaf!

Gold leaf is commonly used for handicrafts such as ornaments and even decoration of temples and shrines.

There are a variety of places where you can experience gold leaf craft in Kanazawa, and one of them is Hakukokan where you can try gold leaf pasting, learn about the history, and even taste gold leaf sweets!
