Amid growing optimism of a restart to cruising in Australia, Pacific Encounter is now officially part of the P&O Cruises Australia fleet following the completion of maritime formalities.
And in line with the precision that applies to such an historic moment in the life of any oceangoing ship, Pacific Encounter became part of the P&O family at precisely 13:47 GMT on January 27.
Pacific Encounter’s entry to the P&O fleet is another important milestone in the transformation of Australia’s homegrown cruise line.
This year, Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure join Pacific Explorer to comprise the P&O fleet offering Australian and New Zealand guests the best in contemporary cruising with features that make P&O such a distinctive brand.
“Pacific Encounter’s official entry to the fleet is a very exciting moment for P&O Cruises Australia and reflects our growing optimism and confidence in a bright future for Australia’s homegrown cruise line,” said Sture Myrmell, President of P&O Cruises Australia.
“This is also an opportunity for us to again thank the many P&O guests who have remained so loyal to the brand during such a challenging period.”
Pacific Encounter is currently in ‘wet dock’ where she has already taken on her new P&O persona with more work to be carried out in coming weeks.
Guests can now look forward to Pacific Encounter with great anticipation with her 2600-guest capacity, 12 guest decks, 290-metre length, 108,000 tonnage and 24-knots top cruising speed.
Pacific Encounter is already sporting her P&O Cruises branding with 20-metre by 8-metre funnel top signs along with her signature southern cross and name on the bow.
