It's a dog's world: how to celebrate International Dog Day with InterContinental Hotels Group

A man's best friend, pandemic pet or inseparable family pup – all pooches welcome as InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®) extends its True Hospitality to four-legged guests at select bars & restaurants across Australia from 26 August until the end of September.

From luxurious High Tea for two at InterContinental Sydney Double Bay to Pizzas & Paws at voco Kirkton Park and Puppy Hour at Holiday Inn Sydney Airport, the all-new epic experiences will roll out in honour of International Dog Day on August 26.

For one-day only, Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley will up the ante with its '5-course dogustation' in partnership with Gourmet Dog Barkery. The specially-curated dogustation is tailored for both small and large dogs and includes an irresistible tasting menu with chicken pupcakes, doggy donuts, watermelon coconut treats and more. The recently-refurbished coastal gem, Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach, is also announcing it will become pet-friendly from today.

After months of disruption, Aussies are looking to embrace post-iso life with their furry friends. A recent survey[1] found four in 10 Australians nominated their dog over their partner as top pick for a holiday companion when restrictions ease. Meanwhile, almost three quarters of dog owners (74%) said if there was a second lockdown, they couldn't survive without their dog.

Ruwan Peiris, Head of Operations, IHG Australasia, said: “Priorities and attitudes have changed for many Australians throughout COVID-19, and not surprisingly this has extended to people's pups and pets – many of which are an inseparable part of their home life. International Dog Day is a fun one to celebrate our canine companions and show them a little R&R across our hotels and resorts.”

Where to celebrate International Dog Day across IHG from 26 August – 30 September:

Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley: 5-course dogustation
With a $45.00 per pup price, furry friends will be sufficiently indulged with a tailored menu by the experts at Gourmet Dog Barkery. The ticketed event will host two seatings to cater to small-to-medium dogs at 1:00pm, followed by larger dogs at 2:00pm. Won't get through a 5-course? It wouldn't be a dogustation without a doggy-bag to take home the delectable treats, including the carob & peanut butter pupcake with cream cheese frosting. Hosted outdoors on the Merlot Lawn, fresh air and adventure await for the perfect pet pampering afternoon.

voco Kirkton Park Hunter Valley: Epoch Pizzeria
Pooches can check into this pet-friendly hotel with two accommodation rooms featuring private courtyards for plenty of pup play. Dogs will be spoiled with their own bedding, water bowl and treats, while every Friday 'Pizza & Paws' returns to the Epoch Pizzeria where four-legged friends can join the fun and receive a special treat on arrival. With 70 acres of rolling mountain views, the Kirkton Park estate is the ideal self-drive stay-cay in the Hunter Valley just 2.5 hours from Sydney.

InterContinental Sydney Double Bay: Rooftop Pool Deck
Luxe pups can retreat to the iconic rooftop pool deck and join their two-legged friends for High Tea. The beloved High Tea ritual is moving to the pool deck so furry friends can join, with each pup receiving a doggy treat and puppycino to lap up the indulgence. Plus, scented relaxation towels will be available for each pup to alleviate any pent-up anxiety from a stressful start to 2020. High Tea is $62.00 per person (minimum 2 people per booking) and is available Monday-Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach goes pet-friendly
Announced today ahead of International Dog Day, the newly-refurbished Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach will allow pooches to sleepover for a chic coastal getaway. Dog owners simply need to add the code 'Dog's Welcome' in the booking request and the pooches will be automatically accommodated with their own dog bed, bowl and special biscuit welcome treat. Everyone is encouraged to explore the stunning refurbishment, with pets allowed in the public spaces, including the Pool Terrace.

Please visit here to book and for T&Cs; numbers are limited so please book ahead.
Holiday Inn Sydney Airport: Biggles Bar & Grill
The recently revamped Biggles Bar & Grill is opening its outdoor terrace for Puppy Hour from 12:00pm-1:00pm and 4:00pm-5:00pm from 26 August until 30 September. The cosy, warehouse-chic ambience will be serving gourmet burgers with hand-made classics including lentil patties and chef's specials, cocktails and more, plus a bowl of dog treats with every drink purchased to pamper the pup. (No pets passed 5:00pm).
