Following Mr T in the Florida Keys

An adult loggerhead sea turtle, released off the Florida Keys a year ago after treatment at the Keys’ Turtle Hospital in Marathon, continues to be tracked via satellite.

Mr. T was returned to the ocean in May 2019, after several surgeries to remove a fishhook, with a small satellite transmitter epoxied to its shell. Since his release, Mr T has travelled more than 1,600 miles spending time in the Atlantic Ocean off the Keys and the Gulf of Mexico. He is currently near Key Largo in the northern Florida Keys.

It’s unusual for a small transmitter to remain on a sea turtle for so long and to keep working. Typically, transmitters fall off in about four to six months, but because Mr. T is an adult his continued growth is very slow. https://we.tl/t-faQ2Cdsoza and https://conserveturtles.org/trackingmap/?id=217
