The Guyana Rum Route

Guyana, on South America’s North Atlantic coast, is defined by its dense rainforest. English-speaking, the capital, Georgetown, is known for British colonial architecture, including tall, painted-timber St. George’s Anglican Cathedral.

The Guyana Tourism Authority has launched the official Guyana Rum Route, which is geared to sharing the story of rum in Guyana and explaining to visitors the role of rum and sugarcane in the lives of Guyanese people for over two centuries.

The sites featured on the route include :
• places linked to the arrival of those who came to work on the plantations
• production sites such as cane fields, factories, canal systems, and
• villages that have evolved from the sugar industry.
