Families planning post-coronavirus getaways will find plenty of ideas in the autumn issue of Out & About with Kids, out this week. The special Australia issue features a photo of children feeding a kangaroo at Cleland Wildlife Park in South Australia's Adelaide Hills, which was one of the areas impacted by bushfires over summer, on the cover. It is one of countless tourism businesses showcased in the magazine.
Editor Angela Saurine said many Australian tourism operators had been hit by a double whammy of the bushfires and the coronavirus pandemic and needed our help more than ever to get back on their feet when travel restrictions are lifted. “I don't know about you, but being told I'm not allowed to go anywhere has given me a burning desire to do just that … as soon as it is safe to do so,” she said. “In the meantime, the next best thing to travelling is reading about it, and there are loads of inspirational stories in our pages. I'm sure we are all disappointed to have had to cancel upcoming trips we (and our kids!) were looking forward to, however, dreaming of visiting those places down the track will help get us through. And when we do start travelling again, we will appreciate our holidays more than ever.”
As well as the 14-page bushfire recovery story, which highlights the best family-friendly activities from the NSW South Coast and Victoria's Gippsland region to South Australia's Kangaroo Island, the issue includes stories about Australia's best road trips with kids, the top whale watching spots around the country, and a story about staying in eco-friendly tiny houses in NSW and Victoria. The Gold Coast, Elements of Byron resort in Byron Bay and Kiama, on the NSW South Coast are also covered in the Australia section.
Snow lovers will love our guide to the best resorts in Australia and New Zealand, as well as a story about Hoshino Resorts Tomamu in Japan. Other international destinations covered include Thailand, Fiji, Edinburgh, Abu Dhabi and Finnish Lapland, all of which will be eager to welcome Australian families back with open arms as soon as possible.
Tour de France champion and devoted dad Cadel Evans also reveals his favourite family travel experiences, while Canadian writer Robin Esrock shares his tips on how to pack for a road trip following a 20,000km driving holiday around Australia with his wife and two kids.
“At a challenging time for the travel industry, I'd particularly like to thank our advertisers for their support,” Angela said. “Without them it wouldn't be possible to bring this much-loved magazine to you. The Out & About with Kids team loves inspiring Australian families to get away and bond while on holidays.”
