The ruins of Hampi in South India have been ranked second in the New York Times’ list of must-see global destinations in 2019.
Hampi, which under the Vijayanagar Empire thrived as one of the richest towns during the 16th century, is described by NYT as an ancient archaeological complex, where history lives on in over 1,000 well-preserved stone monuments, including Hindu temples, forts and palaces.
The article also highlights that the destination has become more accessible recently with the launch of direct from Bengaluru and Hyderabad to Ballari, a mere 25 miles from Hampi. And an even more attractive prospect with new luxury stays in the area!
