Your Host & The Team
“Tugu Hotels aim to keep the rich cultural heritage and the romantic, thousands-years-old history of Indonesia alive. Our lifelong passion for Indonesian arts and history was started by my father and proprietor, Anhar Setjadibrata, who had begun collecting Indonesian antiques when he was a young poor medical student in the 1960s. His passion then grew to become a family mission to bring back to life the art, soul and romance of Indonesia, and to introduce them to the world in a package of dreamy landscapes, atmospheric interior and arts that transports guests to another world of ancient kingdoms and quixotic legends. Each Tugu is designed, built, and managed personally by the owner’s family without outside architect or interior designers, as each of them is a work of love. Secret Retreats is a fellowship of passionate owners opening their doors to share their love and legends.” Lucienne Anhar
Welcome to Lombok
Straddled between Bali and Sumbawa, and forming part of the Lesser Sunda Islands, Lombok’s pristine white sand beaches and warm turquoise waters gleam. Located just minutes from Lombok, the Gili Islands are a famous haven for diving and snorkelling enthusiasts, filled with reefs teeming with soft coral and marine life.
Thanks to its Clean and Green campaign, this hotel organises everything from visits to a local school to teaching others about good environmental practices. One of their community initiatives called Eco Park grows fruit, herbs, yams, vegetables and spices. No chemicals have been used and all the produce is 100% organic. Guests that book a cooking class at the resort are taken on a tour to learn how the hotel makes their own compost.
To support a nearby coral reef, the hotel has also built a unique artistic Biorock structure that aims to generate new marine life. Guests can access it by swimming or canoeing to the site, and then snorkel to see the growing colourful corals and sea creatures. It also features a floating area to sunbathe on or enjoy some shade under the roof's solar panels. Eventually, these corals will cover the entire underwater Barong-shaped structure to form Tugu's logo.
Tugu Lombok recycles used cans, bottles, plastic and candles. Wastewater from the kitchen and laundry is used for gardening, and paper is recycled into bags and wrapping paper. They also support the community by buying all their fresh produce from local farms/markets. 95% of their staff are from Lombok. Guests wishing to participate in Tugu Lombok's local endeavours can help support the turtle farm, pearl farm, local dance/culture, or plant trees.
