On the occasion of the upcoming Khmer New Year festival, the Ministry of Tourism has asked officials to ensure tourism offices around the country are ready to provide a satisfactory service to visitors.

The ministry recently issued a directive in which it says tourism information centres around the country must be properly decorated as to be aesthetically pleasant to visitors and must always have an official in the premises to answer visitors’ questions.

“Every centre needs to have tourism documents ready for the visitor, including promotional leaflets, city maps, and a list of hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and travel agencies in the area,” the directive, which has been signed by Tourism Minister Thong Khon, said.

“Likewise, the towns, cities and provinces in which the centres are located must be cleaned and prepared for the visitors so that they can enjoy them,” it added.

In addition, the ministry asked tourism departments and tour operators across the country to help promote the Sangkranta festivals, which this year will be celebrated in various provinces, including Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Kandal, Prey Veng, Ratanakkiri, Mondulkiri, Kratie, Kampong Chhnang and Phnom Penh.

The Khmer New Year festival will be celebrated on April 14-16.

Ho Vandy, secretary-general of the Cambodian National Tourism Alliance, said the new directive is needed to ensure tourists have timely access to important information during the festivities.

“There should be more signs to help guide visitors during their stay in Cambodia during the holidays, particularly to help them in emergency situations,” he added. “Visitors should have quick access to information regarding police and other emergency numbers.”
