THAILAND INVITES KOREAN FIRMS TO VISIT FOR ‘BLEISURE’

Thailand is calling on Korean companies to visit the country for a unique ‘bleisure’ experience — combination of leisure with business travel.

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, the Thai government agency that promotes MICE tourism, on Jan. 30 held a networking event titled “Thailand Connect Korea” in Seoul, in partnership with Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Airways, to promote the Southeast Asian country as the ideal destination for firms looking to mix business with pleasure.

“Thailand has become a popular destination for Korean travelers, just as Korea is a popular destination for Thai travelers,” Supanic Thiansing, senior manager of TCEB said at the event. “We are very pleased to be here to boost the relationship between Thai and Korea. TCEB is ready to support in every possible way to ensure a successful and valuable event in Thailand.”

Thailand, strategically located at the heart of Southeast Asia, has become a popular destination to hold international events and conventions, thanks to modern infrastructure, transportation, easy accessibility, and quality accommodations added with entertainment and recreational activities, the TCEB explained. Its key MICE destinations include Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Khon Kaen, as well as up-and-coming spots like Krabi, Samui and Hua Hin.

“Recently, many Korean firms are coming to Thailand as part of their incentive travels and for business purposes,” Siriporn Tarnvudhikul, manager at TCEB told The Investor. “I think Thailand has become popular because of the nice weather, culture, food and business opportunities.”

Among many countries visiting Thailand for MICE tourism, Korea ranked fifth last year, up from seventh place in 2016. China and India ranked the top spot.
