The Urban Hotel is brand spanking new - has just been open for three months. It is in the old RSL Building, but due to all the reconstruction work you would not be able to recognise as the old RSL. It seems that the building has been gutted, with only the structural elements remaining.
The lobby is on the ground floor, with a reception desk and and a couple of lounges to sit on. The guest rooms are on the floors above the lobby, accessed by the lift.
The Urban Hotel has industrial-style decor. This means that there is no false ceiling - the air-conditioning ducts, pipes and wiring are all exposed. Works of art are prints of graffiti to be found in Newton. Not the horrible graffiti, but the colourful artistic variety.
My guest room was on the first floor. An open atrium in the middle soaring up to the highest floor with the rooms radiating around it.
My studio room contained a very comfortable king sized bed, with generous pillows and clean crisp sheets and doona. A large flat screen TV was mounted on the wall in front of the bed. It was just the right height top lay on the bed for some late night TV viewing.

The kitchen part of the studio contained fridge, microwave, stove top elements for cooking. Cutlery, crockery and pots and pans were provided. Tea or coffee can be made with the electric jug
The bathroom is large, bright and white. The roomy shower has a large rain shower head, and luscious amenities are provided in body wash, shampoo and conditioner.
There are no dining venues at the Urban Hotel, however this is not a problem as Newtown is famous for it plentiful supply of restaurant, cafe and pub meals. These are all very close in walking distance along Newtown or Enmore Roads.
