Let the Festival Festivities Begin!

2015 welcomes the exciting celebrations of Woodford Folk Festival’s 30th anniversary. There is four days to go until the gates open and the new layout of Woodford is growing into a visual feast for the senses.

A taste of what’s to come was unveiled at the sunset concert in Happy Valley Caloundra on Friday eve, in the form of a giant 10 x 7 metre heart sculpture made as part of Woodford’s Flowerfield project, decorated by hundreds of hand-crafted flowers created by the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay communities.

Katie Noonan debuted her newly commissioned song United in Soundaccompanied by the Sunshine Coast Woodford Welcome Orchestra, conducted by local musician and composer Andrew Veivers.

The performance showcased a stunning sneak peek of the Festival’s Welcome Ceremony which will be held on December 27th.

Festival Founder, Bill Hauritz, is eager to unveil the new festival layout with a heavy focus on the visual aesthetic with new sculptures, bars and venues.

"While the atmosphere is always great, we think the huge improvements in the visual impact this year will take the festival to a new level. We want people to be moved by the art and the decor,” Hauritz said.

“There’s a fresh layout this year with a lot of changes of venues and festival pathways – we think people will love the changes”, he said.

Such a monumental festival may have festival goers wondering what to bring to explore the sparkling new streets of Woodford. Packing the right set-up and get-up can mean the difference between a smooth, happy festival and the opposite of a smooth and happy festival.

But don’t stress, Woodford has you covered!!

THE TOP 5 THINGS TO BRING TO WOODFORD 2015

1. THE RIGHT GETUP

This year Woodford is offering a great weather line-up, so make sure you pack accordingly. We have fun, sunny days where you can show off your new hat, sunnies, water bottle and favourite new fragrance Eau de Sunscreen. This is a great time to get out the spray water bottles, fans, a sarong for the shoulders (doubling as a picnic mat and late night scarf) or take a break under the shade of one of our many trees, venues or bars.

As the sun sets below the horizon the warmth of the day can often give way to a dip in temperature or a beautiful summer storm. So you’re not caught out cold or wet, it’s a great idea to pack a poncho, jumper, and your brightest pair of gumboots – just in case.

2. THE RIGHT SETUP

If you have decided to embrace the camping life at Woodford, there are a few ‘need to knows’ to make your stay safe, comfy and dry. Some essentials we recommend are a waterproof tent, a comfy bed and a change of clothes or two. We have a great selection of bars and food-stalls, but if eating out isn’t your thing make sure to bring a gas cooker, Esky and lots of water.

3. A COSTUME

Wandering around Woodford is an experience that will dazzle and excite, but why sit back and watch when you can become part of the festivities. Bring a costume, or make one at the festival! One of our favourite past-times at Woodford is to pull on our favourite costume, mask or turn ourselves into a living canvas of colour and dance the night away amongst our fellow Woodfordians.

4. AN INSTRUMENT

We love to supply as much fun, entertainment and creation at Woodford as possible, but we understand that sometimes you might need to take a break. What better way to relax than jamming out on your favourite guitar, flute, tambourine or one-man-band and sharing your music with friendly neighbours. Who knows, you might form the next big thing to hit Australia amongst the bustling streets of Woodfordia.

5. A SENSE OF ADVENTURE

Each year Woodford loves to create new and exciting experiences for all to explore. The wonder of the festival has Woodfordians from around the world, making new friends, trying new things and creating unforgettable memories. We open our arms and gates to every walk of life and leave you with one final suggestion. Come with the flexibility to change, the desire to learn and most importantly, a sense of adventure.
