Alice Springs Desert Park to attracts cyclist from around the world

The Country Liberal Government has funded a 5 kilometre path from Blain St to the Alice Springs Desert Park and then on to Flynn’s Grave as part of their Alice Springs Paths Connectivity Project.

The 2.4 metres wide concrete pathway will take visitors “cross country” on parts of the greater area of the Alice Springs Desert Park. Currently visitors can access only the core area of the Park. By installing the new path it opens up areas that have previously been reasonably inaccessible. The path will provide beautiful open views of the MacDonnell Ranges.

“The connection of these tracks will provide users with a safer and more enjoyable experience. It will connect the outer reaches of Alice Springs with the centre of town, which will be great for locals and visitors,”Minister Price said

The contract for associated culverts, causeways and a bridge has been awarded to MPH Carpentry and Construction. A separate contract has been awarded to Sue Dugdale and Associates for signage design.

Chief Minister Adam Giles says the $1.5 million investment in the bike path will take advantage of the unique and jaw-dropping scenery in Alice Springs, and reinforces our on-going commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle in the Territory.

“When completed it will enable tourist operators, visitors and locals alike to diversify their outdoor adventures, improve fitness and boost overall health,” Chief Minister Adam Giles said.

“Alice Springs is surrounded by bike tracks that provide amazing opportunities for bikers and mountain bikers to have incredible experiences in the Red Centre – there’s no place like it for bikers seeking adventure and thrills".
