Fashion publisher marie claire and the NSW Government's tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, have partnered to produce a new interactive Sydney shopping guide for visitors from China.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said the guide is the first of its kind launched for the Chinese market and will be delivered by one of China's largest social media platforms, WeChat.
“The marie claire Sydney guide has been developed to help Chinese visitors navigate Sydney's dynamic shopping scene and easily discover and locate local designers and international brands whilst in NSW,” Mr Ayres said.
“In the past financial year, NSW welcomed more than 520,000 Chinese visitors and of these visitors, 84 per cent went shopping during their trip. The interactive shopping guide is another opportunity to promote Sydney and NSW to the State's largest international visitor market.
“With over 90 per cent of smartphone users in China having a WeChat account, this is another significant opportunity to promote Sydney.”
Developed in Mandarin, the guide showcases unique shopping destinations such as Paddington, Bondi, The Rocks and the Sydney CBD, as well as surrounding attractions and dining experiences.
The guide also encourages travel to Regional NSW including the Blue Mountains, Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley.
Publisher of marie claire, Jackie Frank, said the curated Sydney shopping guide combines the expertise of Australia's number one fashion title, with a unique digital opportunity.
“The interactive guide also gives our longstanding partners like Westfield, Tiffany & Co., Emporio Armani and Estee Lauder, the chance to reach the lucrative luxury Chinese tourist audience. We see this as only the beginning of a long relationship,” Ms Frank said.
