Orange Apple Festival

Come and celebrate the Orange District's rich history of being an apple growing region. The inaugural Orange Apple Festival featuring all things apples will run from Friday May 8 to Sunday May 10, 2015.

Celebrate all things Apples - our region, its history, as an orchard area and the fruit itself.


FRIDAY 8TH MAY

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Dress up Day – wear ‘Apple Colours’ - red or green to school.
Apple Art – capture an apple in paint, ink, film to display @ Orange Region Farmers Market
Apple Pie Drive – fundraise for your school in association with Roberts Bakery and Whitey's Pies
11am The BIG Crunch with children across the district all munching on apples sponsored by Woolworths
Visits from Growers, Producers, Chefs & Cooks to talk apples & count down the Big Crunch
Get the Juice with Appledale – organise juice for your school direct from the growers

To arrange apples for the BIG CRUNCH, a visit from a grower, producer, chef or cook, to organise a pie drive or get apple juice, please call Cath Thompson, Festival Co-ordinator on 0425 259 350.

GRATE APPLE COOK UP

Drop in to the CWA Hall in Robertson to meet a ‘core group’ of cooks, chef’s, foodies & Country Women, bring a peeler, 2 empty glass jars, a chopping board, and wear an apron! We’ll be making apple sauce to give away - One jar for you, One jar to give to someone you know and One jar to give for to someone you don’t!

HERITAGE APPLE WALK AT BORRODELL ON THE MOUNT

Meet local orchardist Borry Gartrell, take a wonder through the orchard and learn about ‘long lost’ apple varieties, grab some apples & a sip of cider.

SATURDAY 9TH MAY

ORANGE REGION FARMERS MARKET 8.30AM – 12.30PM

Location: Agricultural Pavillion, Orange Showground, Leeds Parade, Orange.

Meet the orchardists & buy direct from the growers. You’ll be able to taste & try the apple in all its forms – we’ll showcase apple pies, pastries, slices, sweet treats, toffee apples, fresh apple juice, a range of ciders, apple jams & jellies.

Recipe Swap – bring your favourite apple recipes to the market – we’re putting together Orange Apple Heritage Recipes. Let us feature your recipe, learn their origin, why you love to cook them & who you cook them for.

ORCHARD & PACKING SHED TOUR

Visit a local apple grower, walk through the orchard, see a packing shed, taste apples straight off the tree. Bus departs Orange Visitors Information Centre 1.30pm. Cost: $10.00 pp includes a bag of apples. Bookings: 0425 259 350

APPLE FESTIVAL FUN RUN

MORNING ORCHARD TOUR / LONG TABLE LUNCH IN THE ORCHARD

The humble 'Orange Apple' is the hero of this long table orchard lunch featuring two of the region's finest cooks, Josie Chapman and Lesley Russell. Enjoy a tour of the packing shed and orchard as well as Small Acres Cyder and Sacred Valley Cider. Listen to the sounds of one of the region's finest acoustic artists, Matt Arthur. $85 sponsored by Harris Farm
