Jasper Jones to be filmed in WA

A screen adaptation of the award-winning novel by Craig Silvey will be filmed in Western Australia.
 
Jasper Jones is a murder mystery which has captivated readers and more recently, theatre audiences world-wide.

“Through ScreenWest, the State Government is delighted to be supporting the screen version of this captivating Australian story by investing in its production,” Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said.

“Filmmaking is a complex and competitive business, and we are particularly pleased to have helped secure the production for the State.”

Jasper Jones is a coming-of-age story set in 1965, about teenagers Charlie Bucktin and the town outcast Jasper Jones, who become entangled in a murder mystery.

Filming is anticipated to take place in and around the South-West’s tall forests in mid-2015.

Jasper Jones is produced by David Jowsey (Toomelah, Mystery Road, Mad Bastards, Satellite Boy), Vincent Sheehan (The Hunter,Little Fish, Animal Kingdom), with a script by Shaun Grant (Snowtown) and will be directed by Rachel Perkins (Bran Nue Dae,Redfern Now, Mabo).

The award-winning novel by Fremantle writer Craig Silvey has sold over 180,000 copies in Australia and is published in 15 countries.Jasper Jones was recently adapted into a WA stage production.

Screen Australia have also announced their support of the production.​
