Tra Vinh set for Whale Worship festival

The Nghinh Ong (Whale Worship) Festival in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Tra Vinh will be held from June 7 to 9.

The festival at My Long beach in Cau Ngang District is meant to offer fishermen's thanks to the Sky, Earth, Sea, and ancestors and pray for rains and a bumper fish catch.

The annual festival, held from the 10th to the 12th of the fifth lunar month, will feature several ceremonies, including processions at sea and on land, traditional games like boat races and walking on stilts, and music and dance performances.

The festival, listed as a national intangible culture heritage has been organised for nearly 100 years and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
