New Tourism Map of Alagoas Emphasizes on Historical Tourism

The new tourism map of Alagoas, which has just been redesigned, shows that it can offer the tourist more than sun and beach. There are regions with historical vocation as the Paths of St. Francis and the region of Quilombo, which recounts the history of the Quilombo dos Palmares.

The new map also includes the metropolitan area, which includes the capital Maceió, and two regions that emphasize the natural beauty such as the Coral Coast region on the northern coast of Alagoas region and South Lakes and Seas.

The tourism map is being redrawn by the 27 states according to the new guidelines of the National Tourism Regionalization. The map of regionalization is an important tool because it guides the actions of the Ministry of Tourism and investment policies.

A preview of the new map shows that it already has 3,635 municipalities and 276 registered tourist regions.

The State of Alagoas was the first of 27 to submit a plan of tourism development in line with the Ministry of Tourism , after the release of the Guidelines of the Regionalization Program of the Ministry of Tourism, in May 2013 .

Among the goals of the state are the 20% increase in the flow of tourists and spending. The latest data from the Ministry of Tourism (2011), shows that the state received 2.4 million tourists. The capital, Maceió, is the third most popular destination for seniors.

Study of tourist demand by the Ministry of Tourism, 2012 indicates that major emitters of tourists to the state itself are Alagoas (28 %) , Pernambuco (20 %) and São Paulo (14 %) .

Once the new map is completed, the Ministry of Tourism will classify the level of development (ranging from 1 to 3) of each of the tourist regions and define the investment needs of each locality.
