BIG4 Holiday Parks’ survey shows NSW holidaymakers are luckiest in love

  • Of all Australian states and territories, New South Welshmen are the most likely (15%) to find love while holidaying.
  • Nearly a third (32%) of the NSW survey respondents who said they met their partner while on holidays are still together and going strong.
  • When it comes to platonic friendship-building, NSW survey participants are the least likely (64%) to consider meeting new people whilst on holiday, despite high romance success rates.
  • A higher percentage (68%) of respondents from New South Wales mention that their partners do not work during holidays, surpassing other states and territories.
  • Forget fleeting ‘summer loving’ – new independent research from BIG4 Holiday Parks shows that NSW holiday-goers have a higher chance (compared to survey respondents from other regions) of meeting a long-term partner while on holiday.

The survey showed that people who’ve stayed at holiday parks in the past five years were 50% more likely to uncover romance, with the relationships 50% more likely to last post-trip.

The research also found that 84% of NSW respondents feel more open to meeting people and having a conversation while on holidays.

BIG4 Holiday Parks Chief Executive Officer Sean Jenner said it was no surprise that people find love on holidays while enjoying camping, caravanning and cabin holidays.

“There is a real sense of community at BIG4 Holiday Parks, which brings people together and allows connections to form,” he said.

“Holidays, especially holiday parks, are a great way to meet new people and potential love interests. BIG4 Holiday Parks attract a wide range of people with different interests.”

While 88% of NSW survey participants claim holidays should be completely relaxing and work-free, the state’s survey respondents scored third highest (on 36%) for bringing their work laptop on their trip.

Mr Jenner said this new research had been factored into BIG4 Holiday Park’s latest GO BIG campaign which captures the joy of making a BIG4 holiday booking and the memory-making fun that awaits guests at more than 200 parks around Australia.

“This survey adds to the work we’ve done to better understand our guests as we continue to grow our BIG4 Holiday Parks network,” Mr Jenner said.

“We’ve looked at how people holiday, who they like to go with, how far they’ll travel, and the role of work/life balance during their breaks.

“The research reflects the data we have on group sizes. We’re seeing significant growth in group bookings, which has increased by 39% since 2022, and the number of couples booking sites has grown by 35%. This shows we have enough going on at the parks to keep families busy, whilst also creating a serene environment for the couples.

“We pride ourselves on keeping our finger on the pulse when it comes to delivering what our guests want and we will continue to develop our offering to keep up with changing trends.

“Whether you’re interested in a beach, mountain, bush or outback getaway, we encourage people to book a stay at a BIG4 Holiday Park and experience for themselves what makes our parks so popular with holiday makers.”
