Road Safety tips you NEED to know for the long weekend
With long weekends fast approaching, the roads out of the city will be getting busy and your safety on long road trips will be more important than ever.
To ensure your long drives are as safe as they can possibly be, Toyota Australia Ambassador Abbey Holmes has put together her top 5 road trip tips.
The tips are listed below but can also be found in this handy YouTube video.
Abbey Holmes’ top 5 Road Safety Tips
1. Rest
Make sure you’ve had a good night’s sleep before heading out on the road – fatigue is one of the leading causes of road accidents in Australia so it’s extra important to ensure you’re well rested before hopping behind the wheel.
2. Plan Breaks
If you haven’t slept well enough or are anticipating an extra-long road trip, plan in advance when you’ll take your breaks – Abbey suggests making sure they’re spaced out every 2-3 hours. Without planning, people tend to just power through – this is what increases the risk of driver fatigue.
3. Bring Snacks!
Make sure your car is stocked up with snacks and water to make sure you’re as fuelled up for the trip as your vehicle for a long drive!
4. Stretch
Make sure you make time to step out for a quick stretch of the legs in your breaks – this will make all the difference if you’ve been sitting down in the car for long periods of time.
5. Drive during the day
For better visibility and safety, Abbey likes to try drive during daytime where possible.
