Press Releases TAT creates new wellness content for Calm App

The River Kwai
Collaboration with the #1 App for Meditation and Sleep underscores Thailand’s position as a wellness destination.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in collaboration with Calm, the No. 1 App for Meditation and Sleep, has created an enchanting Thai story as part of the new ‘Extreme Sleeps’ wellness travel content, where listeners will find slumber on one of the world’s most famous waterways, the River Kwai.

TAT’s collaboration with Calm underscores the diverse offerings of Thailand as a wellness destination, fostering a sense of connection to nature and promoting the country’s unique charm.

Extreme Sleeps is a special travel series written by UK adventurer and travel writer Phoebe Smith. Her latest Sleep Story recounts her night on the River Kwai and follows her adventure as experienced on the press trip the TAT arranged for her.

Phoebe spent several days in Kanchanaburi, along the river and with local communities to research the story and indulge in every detail so as to write this beautifully detailed and inspiring story.

Ms. Sadudee Sangnil, Director of the TAT London Office, said “Creating this Sleep Story for Calm aligns with the TAT’s commitment to promoting Thailand as a destination that not only offers vibrant cultural experiences but also serves as a haven for mental well-being and relaxation.”

Extreme Sleeps: River Kwai launched earlier this year and was written and narrated so listeners could experience the beauty and tranquillity of Thailand, without leaving the comfort of their home, whilst benefiting from deep relaxation.

Available exclusively on the Calm app, listeners enjoy 32 minutes of pure relaxation as the narrator, Rhoda Ofori-Attah, transports them from the bustling streets of Bangkok to the tranquil jungle landscapes of Kanchanaburi.

Sleep stories are designed to offer a virtual escape for those wanting to unwind before bed and drift off to sleep peacefully.

The River Kwai story unfolds as listeners embark on a mesmerising train journey from the vibrant capital to the enchanting province of Kanchanaburi, culminating in a peaceful night spent on the river.

“The captivating story truly captures the essence of Thailand’s natural beauty and cultural richness, providing a wonderful immersive and sensory experience that truly relaxes you whilst making you feel like you are there,” Ms. Sadedee said.
