What’s New in 2021: Re-imagining How (and When) We Can Visit the Great American West

The Great American West is both an icon of authentic culture and a vast, living, breathing region of the USA bordered in the west and northeast by the naturally beautiful states of Idaho and North Dakota.

These states are wondrous all year round but a summer road trip is truly the way to explore, on an itinerary you can design to best suit your interests and make the most of local knowledge and the incredible array of experiences available. With wildlife roaming endless plains and vast mountainous wildernesses, State and National Parks to explore and a myriad of seasonal activities to enjoy, Idaho and North Dakota are particularly ideal for safe and socially-distanced adventurers in 2021.

We are already planning for when travel to these states is once again possible. Let’s unpack what’s new, and how to best navigate a trip to these lesser-known and under-valued regions in 2021 to make the most of the new normal in travel.

Check out our Australian & New Zealand websites and our Facebook page for more great photos and information about the Great American West.

WHAT'S NEW IN Great American West

Idaho
  • One item sure to be high on everybody’s list in 2021 is travel; and when it comes to planning an Idaho adventure, there’s no better source for inspiration and itinerary-building than the 2021 Official Idaho Travel Guide.

North Dakota
  • The Midwest Travel Network has selected North Dakota as its Travel Destination of the Year for 2020.   A continuous stream of content by bloggers in North Dakota, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, prompted the travel influencer website to reward the state’s hard work in attracting media coverage to its exciting, wide-open and welcoming locations.
  • Fargo’s new 2021 Visitor Guide has been released. This guide is the ultimate travel companion for individuals looking to explore this North Dakota city.

Montana
  • Paramount Network has confirmed that Kevin Costner's show, Yellowstone, will continue through 2021 (at the very least). The season 3 finale of Yellowstone aired in August 2020. Paramount Network has already announced that the hit cable show has been picked up for a fourth season. Season 4, starring Kevin Costner and the rest of the Yellowstone, is expected to debut in summer 2021.

Wyoming
  • Adventure is making a comeback! Plan your next adventure to Wyoming with the latest 2021 Travel Guide released now.
  • Sage Hospitality Group announced today the addition of Continuum, a boutique independent hotel in Teton Village, Wyoming, to its portfolio of managed properties. Continuum is located at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in the heart of Teton Village and just steps from the resort's legendary aerial tram, the perfect home base for the mountain adventurist. The 90-room property underwent a complete renovation and expansion, reopening as Continuum in December 2019. The hotel offers rooms and lofts, an outdoor heated pool and hot tub and a lobby bar that serves as a social hub for Teton Village.
