Japan may be best known for its Sakura (cherry blossoms) but the blooming of a different flower is celebrated in Mito.
The Mito Plum Blossom Festival celebrates the blooming of 3,000 pink and white plum blossoms at Kairakuen, a beautiful Edo-era park, one of the three great gardens in Japan.
This festival is one of eastern Japan’s biggest spring celebrations, running from late February to end March, with various events such as traditional music concerts, plum wine tasting events, and night illuminations.
