CAMBODIA HOST THE 27TH PLENARY SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE (ICC-ANGKOR)

On 27th January, 2021, the 27th plenary session of the ICC-Angkor held in Siem Reap Provinces which presided over by H.E. Dr. THONG Khon, Minister of Tourism, H.E. Dr. PHOEURNG Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine-Arts and Chairmen of Apsara Authority with the participation of the co-chair H.E. Eva NGUYEN BINH, Ambassador of France Embassy of Cambodia, and H.E. Masahiro MIKAMI, Ambassador of the Japan Embassy of Cambodia.

The session intended to monitor and evaluate the past and on-going projects of the conservation and development of the Angkor Archeological Park and its surrounding areas.

During the session, H.E. Dr. THONG Khon, Minister of Tourism intervened of the Siem Reap Tourism Master Plan 2021-2035 development progress which provide clear guidance to develop tourism under two approaches (1) provide Outstanding Universal Value for the tangible and intangible heritages sustainable management and (2) Responsible and Inclusive development (development with preservation and preservation for development).

The session concluded that, even though the COVID-19 still continues but it does not stop Cambodia from the development and protection the Angkor Archeological Park. The Royal Government of Cambodia released many project to support the Siem Reap province as 38 roads in Siem Reap City are under construction for expansion, landscape view surrounding Angkor Wat Temple is renovated, and temples in the Archeological Park has been restoring.

Through the hard work and commitment of the relevant stakeholders in Cambodia, we hope that Angkor Archeological Park will remains its unique character and ready to serve tourists to experience and explore when everything returning back to normal after the COVID 19. Dr. THONG Khon also emphasized on the Ministry’s 2021-2025 COVID-19 Tourism Recovery Plan that has been approved by Ministry of Economic and Finance of the Kingdom of Cambodia and will submit to Prime Minister’s office for final approval. As of today, Cambodia is still one of the fastest countries to visit amid to COVID-19.
