Royal Barge Procession in Thailand

The Royal Thai Navy will hold an exhibition on the Royal Barge Procession in honor of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (Rama X) on the occasion of his Coronation in 2019.

Organized jointly by members of the public and private sectors, the exhibition "Art on Water” will take place from 25 September to 31 October 2019 at IconSiam Shopping Mall, located beside the Chao Phraya River, on Charoen Nakhon Road, in Bangkok.

It will be officially opened on Wednesday, 25 September, between 13.30 and 15.00 hr at Charoen Nakhon Hall, M floor. The exhibition will feature 52 ceremonial barges participating in the Royal Barge Procession along the Chao Phraya River on 24 October 2019. It will also be shown in three dimensions, which makes it possible for the blind to touch the intricate designs of the royal barges. Other activities will also be arranged as part of the exhibition. Admission is free.

After the opening ceremony, there will be a discussion by Captain Thongyoi Sangsinchai, who composed boat songs, and Captain Natthawat Aramkua, the singer of the boat songs for the Royal Barge Procession.

The next minor rehearsals for the Royal Barge Procession will be held on 23 and 27 September and 3, 7, and 10 October. Full-dress rehearsals will be held on 17 and 21 October.

During the minor and full-dress rehearsals, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will provide special buses to facilitate the travel of people. The Government will launch a volunteer activity, "Big Cleaning,” in two periods. The first one, on 19-20 September, will be carried out along the route that will be taken by Their Majesties the King and Queen during the Royal Barge Procession, from the Wasukri pier to the Ratchaworadit pier. The second one, to be presided over by the Prime Minister, will be conducted on 2 October at Santichai Prakan Park and along the Chao Phraya riverside walkway, down to Pin Klao Bridge.
