42 heritage sites of India, which had long been waiting for inclusion in UNESCO’s “Heritage List”, were included in the list of potential heritages by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
These heritage sites have been included in UNESCO’s ‘Potential Heritage List’ but have not yet been fully recognized as a global heritage.
The list includes the Vishnupur Temple in West Bengal, the Mattanchery Palace in Kochi in Kerala, the Group of Monuments at Mandu in Madhya Pradesh and the ancient Buddhist sites at Sarnath in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, which have been on UNESCO’s potential World Heritage List since 1998.
The list of possible UNESCO heritage includes Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar in Punjab and Majuli Island, which is the mainstream of the Brahmaputra river in Assam since 2004.
