On May 8, Cao Bang Province organized international conference: UNESCO Global Geoparks, tools for sustainable tourism development.
The event aims to promote UNESCO Global Geoparks and to explore and show case their role on promoting tourism based on the conservation and sustainable use of natural, cultural resources.
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Pham Le Thao, Deputy Director of Travel Management Department, Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said that it was a great honor both for Cao Bang Province and Viet Nam when Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark was recognized by UNESCO. The title was considered as great tourism advantage. Cao Bang should call domestic and international supports and strive to be a must-see destination in Viet Nam. VNAT always supports for Cao Bang tourism development.
Dr. Guy Martini, Chairman of UNESCO Global Geoparks Council affirmed that global geopark is an outdoor museum of global values of geology, heritage, culture and nature. The local people play the importance role in sustainable development and geopark protection.
Local authorities need to focus on education for local people to be proud of global geopark, raise awareness of heritage protection. Local people need to be involved and get benefit from global geopark through tourism development.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Trung Thao said that the province hopes to receive further support from the Government, Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO, UNESCO Global Geoparks Network and experts to develop Cao Bang global geopark.
Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark was recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark on April 12, 2018. It is the second global geopark of Viet Nam beside Dong Van Karst Plateau, Ha Giang Province.
The park has many famous landscapes, cultural and historical relics such as Pac Bo Cave, Le Nin Stream, Ban Gioc Waterfall, Nguom Ngao Cave, Thang Hen Lake, Phia Oac - Phia Den National Park, Cao Vit gibbon species conservation area ...
