SYDNEY WELCOMES THE LUNAR NEW YEAR

This week Sydney launched the city’s biggest ever celebrations to mark the Lunar New Year with a line-up of exciting events for all tastes and interests.

The Sydney Lunar Festival, the largest celebration of Lunar Festival outside of Asia, is expected to attract 1.3 million visitors from 1 until 10 February to celebrate the Year of the Pig.

The Festival, run by the City of Sydney, will include the popular Lunar Lanterns exhibition, performances by a cross-section of Sydney’s Asian communities, Chinatown celebrations, dragon boat races, food offerings, lion dancing and a Guinness World Record attempt.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said the city comes alive during the Sydney Lunar Festival.

“With so much on offer in Sydney over the next ten days, this vibrant arts festival offers visitors a program bursting with cultural events, markets, tours, exhibitions and great entertainment. I encourage everyone to make the most of the Lunar New Year in one of the world’s best cities.”
