Seven Sonoma County restaurants earned the Snail of Approval by embracing the Slow Food principles of “Good, Clean, and Fair food, for everybody.” The Snail-approved restaurants include Backyard in Forestville, Diavola Pizzeria and Salumeria in Geyserville, Estero CafĂ© in Valley Ford, Naked Pig in Santa Rosa, SHED in Healdsburg, zazu kitchen + farm in Sebastopol, and the Black Piglet food truck in Healdsburg.
The Snail of Approval sustainability program is a collaboration between two Slow Food chapters, Slow Food Russian River and Slow Food Sonoma County North. Each restaurant went through an approval process that included a detailed questionnaire, followed by a rigorous interview and on-site review. Plans call for adding other restaurants and expanding to include artisan producers and farms.
Slow Food is a global grassroots organization with more than 100,000 members in more than 160 countries; it stands for local foods, traditional gastronomy, and time-honoured food production.
