Central to Sacramento's recent redevelopment is the new downtown Golden 1 Center sports and entertainment complex opening soon. Home of the NBA's Kings basketball team, the arena is poised to be the most technologically-advanced in the country and will offer a full farm-to-fork menu sourced within 90 miles of the court. Beyond thrilling sports, the arena will showcase music, theater, conferences and much more. Completion Date: Oct. 2016

Downtown Commons

Downtown Commons, nicknamed DOCO, will be a 3-acre plaza that will feature entertainment, innovative restaurants, clothing stores, a 250-room boutique hotel, and a place for people to enjoy outdoor concerts, fresh markets and outdoor activities, all near Sacramento's new Golden 1 Center. Opening in early 2017.

Once an industrial warehouse district, Sacramento's R Street Corridor is now a bustling entertainment district. Visitors can enjoy a cocktail at the famed Shady Lady Saloon, try some poke at local favorite Fish Face, tour the amazing creations from residents at the Artist Lofts, shop in unique boutiques and much more. R Street continues to see new additions, so even more excitement is yet to come. Ongoing project.

Sacramento International Airport (SMF)

The airy, four-level Central Terminal B, a $1 billion project is a LEED-certified design. The project includes an $8 million public art program, most notably the 56-foot “Red Rabbit.” SMF ranks among the best U.S. airports for public art according to USA Today's Readers' Choice. SMF won a national design award for its concession program for medium-sized airports and Fodor's Travel ranks SMF in the top 10 high-tech airports in the United States. SMF was among the first in the U.S. to offer free Wi-Fi and was named fourth best air-port in North America for customer service in 2012, 2013 and 2014 by Air-ports Council International (ACI), the international trade association for commercial airports.

The food court in Terminal A just received an extreme $6 million makeover. Simultaneously, the post-security interior saw its biggest remodel since the terminal opened in 1998. The end result is a modern, open dining and lounging area where passengers can relax and enjoy specialty restaurants found only in Sacramento. Local favorites include Paesanos, the Squeeze Inn and Iron Horse Tavern.

New Hotels

Hyatt Place Sacramento International Airport

A new five-story, 150-room Hyatt Place with 3,500 square feet of meeting space will soon be built at Sacramento International Airport. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2016. Completion Date: Fall 2018.

Kimpton Hotel Sacramento

The Sacramento Kings partnered with JMA Ventures to bring a Kimpton Hotel to Sacramento's Golden 1 Center site. The project will be part of a 16-story, mixed-use building that will include condos and retail space. The hotel, which is yet to be named, will offer 250 guest rooms, a high-end restaurant, and a bar. Completion Date: Mid-2017

Hyatt Centric Sacramento Downtown

Next door to Golden 1 Center, new home of the Sacramento Kings, the new Hyatt Centric Hotel will use the street-facing facades of the historic Marshall Hotel while adding to the structure. The new 11-story building will have 159 guest rooms and will be a full-service, boutique hotel. Completion Date: 2018ooth film strips. Visitors will have the interactive opportunity to create their own Warhol Screen Test using a 1960s film camera outfitted for the digital era. Exhibition runs through June 19, 2016.

For more than 160 years, the California State Fair has showcased the best of the Golden State. During the 2015 State Fair at Cal Expo nearly 800,000 people experienced top-name entertainment, agricultural exhibits, harness racing, carnival rides, award-winning wines, craft beers, cheese and olive oils. Cal Expo was dedicated as a place to celebrate California's achievements, industries, agriculture, diversity of its people, traditions and trends that shape the Golden State's future.

2016 USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships

  • Farm-to-Fork Gala Dinner, Sept. 25 - A one-of-a-kind dining experience on the city's famed Tower Bridge that highlights the farmers and chefs who help to define our region
