“The North Coast NSW eclipsed its Queensland rivals for the second year in a row and maintained its standing as the third most popular domestic tourism destination in Australia after Sydney at number one and Melbourne as number two,” jubilant head of the North Coast Destination Network, regional tourism authority, Belinda Novicky announced today.
“Not only did we retain our domestic visitor popularity but overnight visitors to our region grew by a massive 14 per cent between March 2015 and March 2016 – the largest growth recorded by any one region in these latest stats.
“We welcomed a total 5 million visitors spending a total $2.6 million or an average of $529 per visitor for the year ended March 2016.
“These excellent results coupled with our continuing success across key international markets reflected in a 36 per cent increase in international visitors to our region over the past three years, place the North Coast NSW tourism operators and broader community in a strong position of growth and sustainability through this thriving tourism sector.”
