Nestled deep in the valley of the Palo Pinto Mountains lies Possum Kingdom Lake. This massive reservoir, created by damming the Brazos River, is unlike any other lake in Texas. With its crystal clear and incredibly deep waters and its sheer cliffs, "PK" Lake is a vacation paradise. At its midpoint lies the iconic Hell's Gate, a rock formation adjacent to Devil's Island, which is full of as much beauty as it is folklore. Given the flatness of the surrounding terrain, the 30-metre cliffs dwarf even the biggest boats that pass through. Only the divers can add more breathtaking moments to this natural wonder with their complex manoeuvres from almost three times the Olympic diving platform height.
In June this amazing landscape will again become an international sports venue as 22 of the world's elite cliff divers will descend on Hell's Gate for the first stop of the 2016 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.
