Iconic New Accommodation Experience Opens in Sydney's Centennial Park

Imagine being able to stay in a heritage cottage in one of the world's great parks. Well now it is possible, and just minutes from the Sydney CBD. The Residences in Centennial Park are now open and are set to become an iconic accommodation experience for locals and tourists alike.

The Residences, Centennial Park are two heritage cottages in Centennial Park which have been carefully restored and refurbished as boutique self-contained short-stay accommodation experiences.

The operator of these new facilities is the family behind The Hughenden Hotel, a well-established and well-renowned hotel in Woollahra.

James Ruben, General Manager of the Hughenden Hotel said: “I am delighted to officially offer The Residences as a truly unique accommodation experience for locals or tourists to Sydney. These buildings are original, exquisite Victorian-style cottages that are being offered to the public to enjoy, and we will ensure no guest leaves without having a memorable time.”

The Residences will offer five-star full hotel service, modern amenities, Wi-Fi, a breakfast of bespoke products, including locally-produced Centennial Park Honey from the Park's own bee hives, and a boutique selection from acclaimed Vincent chef's Todd Garrett and James Hird at The Hughenden.

Kim Ellis, Executive Director of Sydney's Parklands and Botanic Gardens said: “The restoration and adaptive reuse of these historic cottages was a key project in the Centennial Park Master Plan 2040. To be able to engage a highly-respected local community partner to rejuvenate these more-or-less dormant heritage buildings is an outcome we are delighted with.”

Superintendents Residence

• A fine example of 19th century Victorian-style residence, the Superintendents Residence is located at the northern edge of Centennial Park adjacent to the Paddington Gates at the intersection of Oxford Street, Parkes Drive and Carrington Drive.
• Originally built in 1890-91 from sandstone quarried directly from the site, the Superintendents Residence was built as the home of the senior on-site manager (Superintendent) and his family as a purpose built domestic house. The building offers a superb view down Parkes Drive and across Centennial Park to the suburbs beyond.
• More recently, the Superintendents Residence has been used primarily as a temporary exhibition space, photography workshops, events, however remains unused for a majority of the year.

Rangers Cottage

• The Rangers Cottage was built in 1898-99 as accommodation for the Head Ranger of Centennial Park and his family, which was occupied for this exact purpose for over 100 years.
• Located on Centennial Park's western boundary inside the Park adjacent the Robertson Road Gates, the Cottage is on an elevated position offering sweeping views across Grand Drive and Centennial Park.
• Since its use as accommodation for the Head Ranger, the cottage was refurbished in 1971, and again in 2010, and used as office space, most recently by Conservation Volunteers Australia.

Centennial Parklands

• Centennial Parklands (www.centennialparklands.com.au) is one of Australia's most popularly visited destinations with an estimated 20 million visits were made to the Parklands in the last 12 months.
• Centennial Parklands is the birthplace of modern Australia – as Centennial Park was the site of the inauguration of Federation of Australia on 1 January 1901.
