In Australia the first day of September marks the start of the spring season. A wonderful way to see the beauty of thousands of flowers in their full rowing glory is the visit the Festival of Flowers at the Hunter Valley Gardens, NSW Australia.
The Festival of Flowers is now in its seventh year and has grown to be an immensely popular event designed to immerse visitors in a visual and sensory experience they will never forget. This Festival provides stunning viewing and a hands on experience for all visitors.
There is not just a handful flowers on display, but more than 250,000 annuals planted throughout Hunter Valley Gardens. The beauty of seeing all these flowers in bloom is accompanied by great entertainment, activities, attractions, demonstrations, talks, tours and workshops. Some of this years features include:
TOTEMS – Daily
Totems or ceremonial poles depict a story that unfolds before your eyes, bringing the ancient culture of the Wanaruah people to life in todays modern world. Visitors will be shown how to recognize and read the symbols depicted on each totem and negotiate their way around the Art installation.

Feed the Fish in the Oriental Garden – 2pm
NSW FLORAL ART ASSOCIATION DEMONSTRATION

Louise Jamieson from Taste of the Country will temp your taste buds with Country Style Home Cooking with the recipes and demonstrations utilizing fresh produce of the Gardens and the Valley.
DIXIELAND JAZZ BAND
Every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30am – 2:30pm
Every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30am – 2:30pm
The Dixieland Jazz Band will be roaming through the Gardens for peoples entertainment.
FLORIST'S SHOWCASE
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday
6 local Florist's will be exhibiting new innovative natural stem hand held Bridal Bouquet and matching table arrangements with each week having a different theme. Participating Florists include Beautiful Blooms; Blue Bird Florist ; East Maitland Florist; Floral Affects & Event Hire; Valley Fresh Flowers; and WOW Flowers. The Showcase Themes are Oriental Blossom; Los Vegas Wedding; Alice in Wonderland; Fairies in my Garden;
HAUTE COUTURE MAD HATTERS DISPLAY
Shanz Creations will astound people with their incredible Spring Hat Collection which will be on display in the Entry Hall Daily. Their will also be displays of Hanging Baskets; (Schools and Local Businesses are invited to make their own hanging baskets and display them at Hunter Valley Gardens throughout this years Spring Festival of Flowers)..
WHEELBARROW COMPETITION
WHEELBARROW COMPETITION
25 Wheelbarrow displays created by Hunter Valley Gardens Team members will be on display. The public are invited to Judge the best of of the Wheelbarrow displays.
Festival of Flowers will be held from the 1 – 30 September 2011 and will be open to the public from 9am till 5pm. Entry to the Gardens is $24.00 per adult, $20 for seniors, children aged 4 – 15 are $15, with children 3 years and under admitted free. For more information and the full program see the web site:
