Merriwa Festival of the Fleeces

The Festival of the Fleeces is a celebration of the regions historic association with the Australian Wool Industry. This event is a fun filled family day out that raises money for Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Merriwa and District Rescue Squads. Festival events will be held Friday night 10th June and all day Saturday 11th June in the town centre of Merriwa.

The township of Merriwa is located in NSW, Australia, 82km from Muswellbrook, or 293 km from Sydney.

Activities during the day include Running of the Sheep (where sheep run down Bettington Street, Merriwa"s main street,  dressed in Red Socks), laser tag, obstacle course and fun run, festival parade, pie eating competition, shearing demonstrations, cooee calling, damper cooking, blade shearing, billy cart derby, horse shoe demonstration, Pooka the clown, business window displays, scarecrow competition, whip cracking and tin art work display. With lots more including a Quilting Show, jumping castles, petting zoo and fireworks (Saturday night) there is something to entertain everyone. Plus a whole lot more to keep the family entertained.

The Art Competition is open for all to enter, with prizes for traditional painting, water colour painting, miniature painting, print making section, drawing, The Photography Competition has sections for Colour, Black and White, and Novice.
