Government Backs the Sector with Major Investment
The night’s momentum was amplified by a major announcement from Tourism and Hospitality Minister Hon Louise Upston, who revealed an additional $3 million investment into Tourism New Zealand’s Conference Assistance Programme. The new funding will further attract international conferences to New Zealand over the next year.Minister Upston praised the MEETINGS showcase as an example of the high-value impact of business events on the nation’s economy, infrastructure, and regional tourism. She underscored the importance of these events in supporting year-round visitation and developing the visitor economy.
Auckland’s Unique Culture on Full Display
Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown officially welcomed delegates to Tāmaki Makaurau, the world’s largest Polynesian city, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and significant urban development shaping the city’s future. He was joined by BEIA Chair Martin Snedden and CEO Lisa Hopkins, who spoke from the heart about the historic venue.
Hopkins described Eden Park as a place that embodies legacy and pride, noting her vision for MEETINGS to be a catalyst for long-term connections and business opportunities.
“This event was not just an opening,” Hopkins said. “It was a celebration of what we stand for—world-class capability, cultural depth, and the people who bring events to life in New Zealand.”

The event was co-produced with the support of Vidcom, Auckland Convention Bureau, and the Eden Park team, offering a shining example of New Zealand’s ability to host international-standard gatherings with flair.
Looking Ahead to Two Days of Connection
With the two-day trade exhibition officially beginning on 11 June at Auckland Showgrounds, over 550 domestic and international buyers are set to connect with 215 exhibitors across 255 stands representing 18 regions.
Lisa Hopkins emphasised that the true impact of MEETINGS 2025 will stretch beyond the event itself.
“It’s about building future opportunities, growing our industry talent, and leaving a lasting impression on those who come here to connect,” she said.
