NTIA nominations now open

Nominations for the 2023 National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) are now open.

AFTA has been hard at work collaborating with the NTIA Custodians to make the NTIA 2023 Awards process better than ever.

The NTIA Custodians have agreed upon several recommendations and restructuring of the NTIA categories and eligibility to better reflect the industry for the 2023 Awards, held in Melbourne on November 18.

In total there will be up to 36 award categories for NTIA 2023, including 27 “Most Outstanding” judged categories, 7 “Most Popular” voted categories and 2 “People’s Choice” consumer campaigns.

Several categories have been expanded to reflect the industry’s strong growth and expansion of scope, including additions to the Cruise, Airline, Tour Operator and Wholesaler categories.

The Awards will also see the reintroduction of Business Events Travel Agency and Car Rental Operator categories, as well as a brand-new category, Innovation in Travel Support Services.

ATAS Accreditation will be a prerequisite for travel consultant and agency categories, as well as tour operators and wholesalers, as this recognises their continued commitment to elevating the standards of our Sector.

This year’s NTIAs will also be introducing an awards management portal to streamline the nominee experience and make available the judging criteria to best craft applications.

Judging for the “Most Outstanding” Awards will continue to follow a 2-step process with finalists determined from submissions and judging from a panel selected by the NTIA Custodians.

While Judges have always been required to disclose any known conflicts, this year will see further enhancement of the integrity of the process with sponsors and trade media representatives no longer participating in judging.

“Most Popular” Supplier categories will be opened to industry voting, with the top 5 voted companies confirmed as finalists, and the top voted suppliers announced as the winner.

AFTA thanks our Custodians Ann-Catherine Jones, Barbara Whitten, Tony Gothard, Jean Summers, Damian Borg, Dick Webster and Chris Fundell for their ongoing help in shaping the NTIAs. The NTIA Custodians represent key markets within the travel industry, including retail, corporate, online, tour operator, wholesalers and suppliers.

Quotes from Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) CEO Dean Long
“Our NTIA Custodians have been hard at work collaborating with AFTA to preserve the integrity of the NTIAs while continuing to evolve the process of recognising and rewarding excellence in Australia’s Travel Sector.”

“These changes best reflect the expansion of scope of our industry and allow for the recognition of excellence across all parts of the Travel Industry Sector.”

“As the pre-eminent awards for our Industry and given the significant value that corporate and consumer Australia places on the NTIAs, these changes will serve to enhance the reputation of our finalists and winners as the very best in class for 2023.”
