Kurokawa Hot Springs

The Kurokawa Hot Springs are located on the 700-metre-tall highlands of Aso in Kumamoto prefecture. 

The area will hold its yearly winter Yuakari event until 5th April 2020. For the duration of the event, from dusk until 10:00 p.m., bamboo lanterns light up the area along the river and hot springs park. 

This lovely event also acts a means of preserving the natural surroundings of Kurokawa Hot Springs. Bamboo grows quickly and tends to impede the growth of other trees, making it necessary to thin the bamboo in the area. 

Kurokawa Hot Springs is a 3-hour bus ride from Kumamoto Station or Hakata Station.
