The World’s Largest Virgin Siebold’s Beech Forest

Japan’s first UNESCO World Heritage site, Shirakami-Sanchi, is often photographed surrounded by luscious summer greenery, but it’s also lovely in winter when covered in snow.

It is home to the world’s largest virgin Siebold’s beech forest and is a breathtaking sight to behold when covered in pure white snow.

Visitors will need to bring proper winter outdoor wear and boots for trekking in the snow-covered mountains, but it’s worth this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The trekking path begins at the “Tashiro (Nishimeya-murayakuba-mae)” bus stop, a 55-minute bus ride from JR Hirosaki Station.
