The Mekong Mini Movie Festival

The Mekong Mini Movie Festival
Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to inspire people to visit a destination, especially if the stories are told in short video format. Storytelling becomes even more powerful when the stories are real from people like you and me, instead of fabricated by brands and produced by expensive marketing agencies.

The Mekong Mini Movie Festival is the region's first multi country annual tourism marketing campaign, leveraging the power of visual user generated storytelling to celebrate the many experiences of the Greater Mekong Subregion. Important: Content creators never lose the rights or control over their videos. Please read the Terms & Conditions and the Campaign Description for more information, and view our promotional one-minute video.

But it's much more than that! It engages people to share their experiences in any of the GMS member countries on their own personal social media accounts (including Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube) by tagging the short videos of maximum 60 seconds with #MekongMoments, #Minis, and the country (#Thailand, #Cambodia, #Myanmar, #Laos, #Vietnam).

More importantly, the campaign does one more thing, unique and pioneering to any tourism marketing campaign executed by a regional or national destination marketing organization worldwide:

>>> It drives exposure and sales directly to participating businesses regardless of size or type! How?

First: Companies or organizations can register for a free basic website on www. MekongMoments.com, and join more than 7,000 experiences already on the platform already. See https://www.mekongmoments.com/anurak-lodge as an example. See our Mekong Moments Set-up Guide at http://bit.ly/MM-Set-up

Second: Promote the Mekong Minis campaign to your guests, staff, and stakeholders to add the hashtag of your restaurant, hotel, tour, attraction, etc (ie #AnurakLodge), in addition to #MekongMoments, #Minis, and the country hashtags.

What happens if your organization does that?

1. Every time a video that is tagged as mentioned above, it is fed into www.MekongMinis.com

2. When somebody clicks to view the video (or visual content on MekongMoments.com) to view, a direct link to the micro website of the business (as well as the destination website) on MekongMoments.com is displayed.

3. The business or organization can add a call to action (ie book hotel) to that micro website.

4. The more videos and content that are shared from that business and/or destination, the more exposure the business and/or destination receives, and the more the Mekong RĂ©gion is promoted overall globally (which is in everybody’s interest).

The benefits are clear: the more shared experiences of your business, the more exposure and thus promotion for your business and the destination - and the more people that get inspired via storytelling through shared experiences about the Mekong Region, which is very beneficial for businesses in the region. Very powerful! Especially if you are a hotel, tour operator, restaurant, river cruise, and attraction, make sure you engage and participate in this important campaign, powered by our collaborative social commerce campaign platform MekongMoments.com. You can contact infomekongmoments.com to order marketing materials to promote the campaign or get support.

Take a look at some of the videos shared so far at www.MekongMinis.com. The most inspiring videos are featured on the @MekongMinis Instagram and Facebook accounts. So far Mekong Minis videos reached over 1 million views in just two months - promoting the travel and tourism in the Mekong Region.

What about the prizes? Each country is giving out three experiential trips as prizes for the best videos, during the Mekong Mini Movie Festival Screening and Awards Ceremony during 2018 Mekong Tourism Forum in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand on June 26-28. The deadline for video submission is May 15th (and November 15th for the Regional Prize including at least three Mekong countries in a 60-seconds video, awarded at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019). The countries will announces the prizes soon, so please stay tuned.

We also welcome category partners that want to claim key hashtags. I am very pleased to introduce our featured category partner who has claimed the #LUXURY hashtag: Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. Any videos that are related to a luxury experience in the Mekong Region, and are tagged with #luxury in addition to the other required hashtags above, will receive a prize from Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. And with amazing new properties, such as the Rosewood Hotel Luang Prabang, as well as Phnom Penh and Phuket, this is something very special. (Note: the videos can be any luxury experiences in the Mekong Region, and don’t have to be related to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts). Any companies interested in claiming a category, please contact me directly for more details.

Finally, we are all supporting an important cause: In collaboration with our partner WWF, we are raising awareness of the endangered Irrawaddy Dolphin, the official mascot of the Mekong Mini Movie Festival. The dolphin trophies, created by a young Thai designer, will be handed out to the winners at the 2018 Mekong Tourism Forum.
