SYDNEY TO HOST HISTORIC WOMEN’S GAMES FOR 2017 RUGBY LEAGUE WORLD CUP

In an historic first, the 2017 Women’s Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) will be held concurrently with the men’s tournament, with pool matches and semi-finals to be played at Southern Cross Group Stadium in Cronulla.

NSW Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres and RLWC 2017 Chief Executive Officer Andrew Hill have announced the six team tournament, with three triple headers and a semi-final double header set to be a massive drawcard for fans.

“This is first time the Women’s World Cup has been played concurrently with the Men’s Tournament, creating a legacy for the game, and what better location than the home of Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, from 16 November next year,” Mr Ayres said.

“Women’s international rugby league continues to go from strength to strength and Sydney is the perfect location to showcase this international talent on the world stage.”

Six women’s teams will travel from three continents Europe (England), North America (Canada) and Oceania (Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea) with the final team to be confirmed after the Pacific Qualifying Series next month.
